Seaweed featured in specialty sausages

For all of its applications outside of the culinary sphere – including biofuels, medical devices and fertilizers – seaweed is equally impressive as a versatile and nutrient-rich cooking ingredient. Previously on this blog, we've covered a wealth of enticing seaweed recipes ranging from cupcakes to savory chips, and now an innovative butcher in the United Kingdom has introduced this sea vegetable to sausages.

"I like the idea of taking good meat and adding wild and natural Westcountry products to it to create something new," Andrew Maunder of Lloyd Maunder butcher's shops told the regional news outlet This Is Cornwall.

Adding a taste of the sea to the butcher's trademark sausages is particularly ideal for this coastal community, as this plant as abundant along its shores. To date, Maunder explained that he is currently conducting taste tests to gauge public interest in his intriguing new product. So far, his pork and seaweed sausages – which were reportedly inspired by an article he read on foraging – have been well-received by members of the local community.

With its remarkable nutrient content and enticing savory taste, seaweed provides an excellent way to boost the nutritional values of your meals while drawing out their flavor. Seagreens® seaweed, though unaffiliated with Maunder's sausages, is sustainably wild-harvested in the Scottish Outer Hebrides, and products like The Mineral Salt and the Culinary Ingredient have been specifically developed to enhance the flavor of your food while infusing it with vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Incorporate these items into your very own seaweed recipes, or try our daily Food Capsules.
