Seaweed described as “next superfood”

If you aren't already enjoying the benefits of seaweed, you're about to be late to one of the biggest trends in health food. According to global market research company Mintel, seaweed was an ingredient in  88 percent of global food product launches between 2011 and 2015.

Stephanie Mattucci, a global food science analyst at Mintel, said that with this impressive growth, seaweed may become "the next superfood." While Mattucci said seaweed has remained "somewhat niche" in North America and Europe, its health benefits have poised it to become a dietary staple worldwide.

Recently, a team of Irish researchers uncovered seaweed's effect on a range of chronic diseases, from cancer to allergies, finding ways that seaweed could help in all these areas of health.

Research from Sheffield Hallam University found that Seagreens seaweed can be a viable salt replacement, containing just 3 percent sodium (compared to the 40 percent in standard table salt). Using seaweed as a salt replacement on a daily basis can also help lower food intake by 179 calories – a reduction connected to better weight management.

Other research from Newcastle University revealed that Seagreens seaweed products have a high antioxidant capacity, even more than fruit or vegetables. That concentration remains high and releases antioxidants into the gut lumen throughout digestion. Antioxidants have been reported to have numerous health benefits, particularly with reducing the oxidative stress associated with age-related diseases.

To benefit from these nutritional values, try Seagreens Food Granules. Every Seagreens product contains all the minerals, micronutrients, trace elements and vitamins that can be found in all-natural, organic seaweed. Seagreens organic wild wrack seaweeds are produced to the company's award-winning proprietary standard (patents pending) among Scotland's remote Western Islands in pristine Grade A waters.
