Centenarian credits seaweed supplements and a healthy diet for her long life
We've espoused the nutritional merits of seaweed extensively on this blog, citing the high levels of vitamins, minerals and trace elements as an excellent reason to incorporate this abundant sea vegetable into your daily meals. In addition to the studies we've covered, it always helps to hear first-hand accounts from people who have reaped the benefits of seaweed first hand, leading happy, healthy lives due in part to their taste for this plant.
Recently, 104-year-old Brenda Stockwell of Southbourne in England shared the role she believes seaweed has played in her prolonged good health.
"I've [...] been taking seaweed tablets every day for about 30 years and I'm sure they have helped me to stay healthy," she told the Daily Echo, a regional news outlet.
Stockwell also noted that she has never had a penchant for drinking or smoking, and has prioritized regular exercise and a well-balanced diet throughout her life.
This isn't the first time that seaweed nutrients have been associated with long-term health. Previously on this blog, we noted that seaweed recipes were featured in wellness specialist Dr. Mao Shing Ni's "Secrets of Longevity Cookbook." Dr. Mao reportedly spent 25 years analyzing the diets of centenarians like Ms. Stockwell to discover commonalities, and found that seaweed came up again and again as an anti-aging ingredient.
